1. Introduction

This privacy statement explains how Arnaud Deveugle ("I", "me") handles personal data in connection with the website arnauddeveugle.com (the "Website"), a personal portfolio and CV.

I respect your privacy and process personal data in accordance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and applicable Belgian data protection law. The Website is intentionally minimal: it has no user accounts, no contact forms, no newsletter, and no advertising.

2. Who I am and how to contact me

This Website is operated by Arnaud Deveugle, based in Merelbeke, Belgium. I act as the data controller for the limited personal data processed through the Website.

For any question about your privacy or this statement, you can reach me at arnaud@aforsteri.com.

3. Which personal data I process

Because the Website has no forms or accounts, I only process a small amount of data:

  • Contact data you choose to share: if you email or call me using the links on the Website, I receive your email address or phone number, your name if you provide it, and the content of your message.
  • Usage and device data: aggregated, non-identifying statistics about visits (such as page views, approximate region, referring site, browser type, and performance metrics), collected through privacy-friendly analytics that do not use cookies.
  • Preferences stored on your device: your light or dark theme choice is saved in your browser's local storage. It stays on your device and is not transmitted to or collected by me.

4. Why I use this data, on what basis, and for how long

  • To respond to you when you contact me. Legal basis: my legitimate interest in answering enquiries, and steps taken at your request. Retention: for as long as needed to handle your enquiry and any follow-up, after which the message is deleted.
  • To understand how the Website is used and to keep it fast and reliable. Legal basis: my legitimate interest in operating and improving the Website. This analytics data is aggregated, does not identify you, and is retained only in aggregated form.
  • To remember your theme preference. This relies on storage that is strictly necessary to provide the feature you used, and stays on your device.

5. Cookies and similar technologies

The Website does not use cookies for advertising, tracking, or profiling. It does not set any tracking cookies at all.

Visit statistics and performance are measured with Vercel Web Analytics and Vercel Speed Insights, which are designed to work without cookies and without collecting data that identifies you personally. Your theme preference is stored using your browser's local storage, not a cookie, and is used only to display the Website in your chosen appearance.

6. Sharing of personal data

I do not sell your personal data and I do not share it for marketing purposes.

The Website is hosted by Vercel Inc., which processes data only to host the Website and provide the analytics described above, acting as my processor. Email you send me is handled through my email provider. These providers may process data solely as needed to deliver their service.

7. International transfers

Some of these service providers, including Vercel, are established outside the European Economic Area (EEA), in particular in the United States. Where personal data is transferred outside the EEA, it is protected by appropriate safeguards permitted under the GDPR, such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses. You can contact me for more information about these safeguards.

8. Data security

I take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal data against loss, misuse, and unauthorised access, including serving the Website over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, so absolute security cannot be guaranteed.

9. Your rights

Subject to the conditions set out in the GDPR, you have the right to:

  • access the personal data I hold about you;
  • have inaccurate or incomplete data corrected;
  • have your data erased;
  • restrict or object to the processing of your data;
  • data portability, where applicable;
  • withdraw any consent you have given, at any time.

To exercise any of these rights, contact me at arnaud@aforsteri.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Belgian Data Protection Authority (Gegevensbeschermingsautoriteit / Autorité de protection des données); its current contact details are available on its website at www.gegevensbeschermingsautoriteit.be.

10. Changes to this privacy statement

I may update this privacy statement from time to time. The date of the latest version is shown at the top of this page. Please review it occasionally to stay informed of any changes.

11. Contact

For any question about this privacy statement or how your personal data is handled, contact Arnaud Deveugle at arnaud@aforsteri.com.
